At the 140th Canton Fair This Week? Ask Wet-Area Factories These 5 Questions

The 140th Canton Fair opened in Guangzhou on October 15, 2026, with Premier Li Qiang delivering the opening keynote. Phase 1 has already wrapped.

Here’s the detail most wet-area buyers miss: the building and decorative materials halls — where every backer-board supplier you’d want to meet will be standing — don’t open until Phase 2, October 23–27.

We won’t be in those halls.

Not because a booth is too expensive. Because for a wet-room factory with a full export line, a booth answers the wrong questions.

What does a booth actually tell you?

A booth is good at exactly one thing: you get to touch the board. Feel the coating. Flex it. Weight and texture matter, and no PDF replaces your hand.

But a 12 mm backer board at a booth looks like every other 12 mm board on the row. The differences are inside it, and nobody prints them on a booth wall. Ours, from our own batch test reports: 0.8% water absorption after 96 hours of immersion. 361 kPa compressive strength. A 1,842 N bending load on a 12 mm sheet. Sound reduction of Rw,P 23 dB. Free formaldehyde emission of 0.018 mg/(m²·h).

You can’t learn any of that from a handshake.

Ask for the test report, not the brochure

Any factory worth your container can email you a full test report within the hour. If the reply is a marketing sheet with the numbers blurred out, that’s your answer.

And here’s the uncomfortable part for booth sellers: the materials phase runs October 23–27. Our standard boards ship in 7–15 days after order confirmation, and custom cuts add 5–10. Shortlist us this week and our samples can be on your job site before the materials halls even open. That speed doesn’t come from a bigger booth. It comes from the whole chain sitting in one compound: XPS core extrusion, cementitious coating, cutting, testing, loading. One QC trail, no trading company in the middle retyping someone else’s certificate numbers.

Five questions that work at the fair and after it

Whether you meet a factory in the October 23–27 materials halls or find one at midnight on Google, the questions are the same:

1. Send the full test report — absorption at 96 hours, compressive strength, bending load. Numbers or it didn’t happen.
2. What’s the lead time for my sizes, not your catalog sizes? Ours: 7–15 days standard, custom adds 5–10.
3. One 40HQ container, mixed thicknesses — how many sheets fit? Ask for the written loading plan, not an estimate.
4. Who actually holds the certifications? Ours are ICC-ES and EN 13164, verifiable by number in public directories.
5. If a board fails on site in two years, who’s on the hook? Factory-direct means the factory.
